There are various versions of the game. This game was actually from South America but now it has spread all across the United States and has become a famous game.
We have American Canasta which is a really famous in the United States and there are various tournaments held for this game. There are a few differences from the original Canasta. Here there are very serious penalties for melds, which will be much better in other versions of the game. But the real fun and interesting version is that of the Classic Canasta and Foot Canasta. The American version of the game only allows 4 players and two people will play as partners.

There are winning moves that are provided with some special cards like small wilds, big wilds which are jokers, stops which are black 3’s and Bonus which are red 3’s and also Calientes. When the Caliente card is played it will allow a player to take cards from a pile of cards until he has the same number of cards that he had started with.
Hand and Foot is also another version of the game. Here there are 4 or 6 decks. There are no 2 decks here and it is played by two teams. The decks used always are one more than the players. This game has been available since 1970’s. Many people feel that this game is great for those who are learning the game.
In recent times there is a new version of the game, Deluxe Canasta Caliente. This game also includes the main Canasta rules and it also has new cards that capture the spirit of South America.
