TOP TRUMPS - RULES OF THE GAME

Top Trumps is a type of a card game that is really fun and very simple to play. Basically, this game started out as a tool for teaching kids in fun manner and also so that they understand and grasp better.

It has been a very popular game since very long time, especially among kids. Its simplicity and its fun element make it hugely likeable and popular among adults too.

RULES OF THE GAME

This game ordinarily requires at least two players or more. The aim of the player should be to win all the cards from each of the fellow players.

You begin the game by distributing the pack of cards among all the players equally. You are supposed to hold the cards facing you. The player to the left of the dealer generally starts the game.

These cards contain some numerical data and statistics depending on the theme of the cards. For example, if the theme of your pack of cards is cars, then the numerical data could be speed, engine size, mileage etc. The player who starts can begin reading out any of the value of his choice and places the card in the centre for all to see. Then remaining players too will read out the values belonging to the same category one by one and place their cards in the centre for everyone to see.

The player whose card shows the highest value will take away the respective cards of the opponents and place it at the bottom of his stack. Then he begins the next round by calling out some other value from another category. But in case of draw, the players will let their respective cards remain in the centre and will start another round calling out some other value. Then the winner of this round can take away the cards of this as well as the previous round. One by one, the players who lose out all their cards will be eliminated and finally, only one player will be left having all the cards of the pack. He is the winner.

There are certain variants in this game. One of these variants allows a rule called as ‘three card pick’. According to this variant, a player who is left with three cards is given liberty of choosing any of these cards to play. These kinds of variants lengthen the game. This game generally takes around 15 – 20 minutes for each game.

Players aged seven and up can play this game. It requires at least 2 players or even more. Each deck generally contains around 30 cards. You can not play one deck against another deck because each deck will have a theme of its own.

Top Trumps is such a fun game though it does not consist of any big strategic moves or thrill. But, it sure does provide fun, in expensive fun for children as well as adults. This game is appealing because of its various themes and variants.
