Let us consider firstly what this game is all about, its card uniqueness, rules, and strategy.
Match Attax is a card game which is very simple. Firstly, let us consider the cards: there are totally 396 cards in one set for 2008/2009 Bundesliga-season. So for every eighteen teams there exists:
Totally sixteen usual players, two star players (that is one for every 2.3 boosters), three match winners (that is one for every five boosters), and a team logo (which is irrelevant when game is concerned).
So, one booster costs one Euro which contains six cards. Therefore, 100 boosters cost fifty to sixty Euros. Nowadays, starter packs come with few limited-edition cards and many kids and sports magazines.
The important factor for every game play with cards is its offense and defense ranges from bad to good (that is from 0 to 100), team affiliation, and position of attacker, midfielder, defender, and goal keeper.
These offense and defence values are obtained from official information which is used for formulating multiple leagues on many sports websites. When star and regular player cards are taken into consideration, one can note that both use the same average values. Whereas, match winner cards just features the stats of Attax game till the match winners.
So, now let us consider the rules which must be followed to play this game. Every player selects eleven players after conforming to one valid-football strategy (that is maximum there must be three attackers, one keeper, and so on) and three substitutes.
Firstly, the cards must be laid with its face down, so that the only thing which is visible is the group and location of football player. This play comprises of eleven rounds: Select one player randomly at the beginning or a winner of previous round and ask him/her to take one card from his/her face-down cards. Now allow the other competitor to select one from his/her face-down cards, which must be exactly opposite to his/her first competitor.
Then turn both the cards up and compare their offense/defense values respectively. Note that the competitor with the higher value of offense/defense values, gains victory over the play. Thereby, bar if there are any draws and now there are exactly eleven goals that must be scored. You can bring in substitutes one-for-one prior to any turns. Make sure not to bring in substitutes before the final turn.
So one might ponder, does this game offer some level of strategic depth because this is a simple game. Never get fooled, since this game is mainly targeted at boys of younger age in the mainstream market. Few strategies are the outcome from the deck-building rules. Many types of fun games are played with cards by same team members. So, one cannot just choose best players, instead one must think a lot while building the deck.
You may want to make use of cards with best defensive/offensive values or you may want to mislead the competitor by selecting a good offensive and defensive guy.
So, stay away if you do not expect a strategy game.
