Baccarat - History of the game

Baccarat is generally a game of cards which suddenly rose to popularity recently and now continues to be a famous gambling game. Baccarat actually dates back to the medieval ages. It has been believed to have originated and introduced into France from Italy. This was during the reign of king Charles of France who ruled from 1483-1498.
This game is believed to be have been played on a tarot deck. This game was played among the aristocracy. The game started to spread and finally the game split to a European baccarat and in France it was known as “chemin de fer.”
“Chemin de fer” is more or less similar to baccarat and now it has become famous in American casinos. The difference is that, one of the players will bank the game instead of the casino. The banker’s role will keep moving around the table just as how the dice moves around.
The game Baccarat that we all know today has generally originated in The United Kingdom and then moved on to South America and then finally Nevada. It was introduced in the Dunes casino in the late 1950’s and has seen itself move from country to country and then to the internet.
Baccarat also has its history in other countries. This is due to the popularity of the game. People all over the world visit the united Sates just to gamble at the game. The main high rollers come from other countries to play the game. In the casinos which are in Macao, near Hong Kong, baccarat is extremely popular.
In North America it is known as Punto banco and it is basically a game of chance. There is no need for skill in this version of the game. Basically, each player’s moves are generally forced by the cards the player has been dealt with. This game also got fame earlier when it was mentioned in the bond books. The game was not portrayed in the movie, because of the popularity of poker in America at that time. But the 1967 version of Casino Royale shows the most detailed way to play Baccarat.
This game has also gained fame in various movies in various other movies such as Rush Hour 3 also where the main character has to play the game at a Paris casino. Another movie called “The Saint” also has this game being played in the movie.
Hence the game has evolved fast and now has qualified as a great gambling game and still continues to be a prime game at the casinos. But this game has been overshadowed by the new game called Texas Hold Em Poker which has now emerged as a bigger game than Baccarat lately.
The game now is still played at all casinos and still continues to be a hit among those who come from abroad to play the game.
